Termites are often called white ants as they are similar to ants in size. They work on a sophisticated colony system where their role is to make to colony survive and provide for the next colony. To meet that need, they source cellulose for food, usually timber. In the bush this is not a major issue. But the termites do not distinguish between a tree and your home as it is the same food type. That can result in major structural damage to a building from termite infestation which causes termite damage usually in enclosed areas or walls. It is essential to have a termite inspection to find the termite damage and provide a suitable termite treatment.

Every termite infestation is different and requires expertise to identify the termite species and carry out the treatment for the termite infestation.


The main concern is that there can be major structural damage to a building from the termite infestation. The extent of structural damage cannot be revealed without an adequate termite inspection, as well as likely a building inspection by a building expert.

In extreme cases where there has been prolonged termite damage, there can be collapse of timber floors.


This is a concern where there is an upper floor level and the structural integrity is compromised by the termite infestation.

Termite entry to the upper levels requires access via a suitable source such as a timber stud wall. Often termites will form a “sub nest” within the walls and then use that as a base to continue to the upper levels. This “sub nest” is a honeycomb of mud packing where the termites colonise.

Where termite activity is suspected, then a thorough termite inspection is strongly recommended to find the termite damage. This may require cutting in some access panels if full access is not available.
